I created this dress for the Chestertown RiverArts Re!magined Runway fashion show and gala. The idea behind the event was to use recycled or reclaimed materials to create an outfit.
I repurposed a bridesmaid dress from my sister and collected collected colorful plastic bottles and containers to use for my design. I cut up the plastic to create a blue heron mosaic on the bodice of the dress. For the skirt, I reused the blue PVC from my Bubble Outfit and added a garland of plastic bottle caps. I also created binoculars out of plastic bottles to use as a prop.
I had the best time sharing my work and hanging out with the other designers. Thank you to the judges for the “Most Elegant” design award.
It was also an honor to display my design in the shop window at Mimi's Closet in downtown Chestertown after the event.
Photos on the river taken by by Betsy Skinner - A blue heron landed on the dock right as we walked up. It only stayed for a minute, but it was such a wonderful moment.
